Fathers’ unique parenting skills can help child’s social development
According to new research, it may be beneficial for fathers to be a kid again, at least for a little bit.
For some fathers, wrestling and playing video games with their kids can lead to some light teasing on both sides, especially if you are losing. While it may not seem like it, recent studies have found that this practice of teasing can be a helpful parenting skill in improving a child’s social development.
New research from the National Communication Association found teasing can be a positive experience in child development because it teaches them “how to show affection and deal with conflict.”
“Research shows us that even very young children can recognize that teasing is not always bad; that sometimes it can be a fun way to play with friends and family,” said Carol Bishop Mills, one of the authors of the study.
This may include a light-hearted “I don’t think you’re gonna make it!” during a video game or a good-humored “You think you can take down the old man? Have at it!” before some playful wrestling.
The key, according to the researchers, is to make sure everyone is laughing and having a good time. They suggest fathers use their parenting skills to identify if the teasing crosses over to bullying.
If some slight aggression does emerge from the teasing, fathers can use the opportunity to teach their child about the difference between teasing and bullying, which may help the child in a school environment.
This somewhat loose approach toward parenting can benefit a child’s social, physical and intellectual development, according to Dr. Kyle Pruett, a professor of child psychiatry at Yale and author of Fatherneed.
By engaging children in this nontraditional manner, fathers may also develop strong bonds with their kids that may not have been formed another way.

A few of them are weight training, taking a fitness class, and cardio training. You should try to exercise at least three days a week for at least 15 minutes.
2. Another weight loss after pregnancy tip is to eat healthy foods. This will help you burn body fat quickly. Some of the foods that you should eat include whole wheat breads and pastas, yogurt, fruits, lean meats, veggies, and nuts. Also, be sure you eat every couple of hours.
3. The third thing you can do that will help you get rid of the weight quickly is to eat a small meal early in the morning. I know that being a mom is a tough job. The first thing on your mind in the morning is feeding your kids and getting them off to school. But, you should know that eating a small healthy meal early in the morning will help boost your metabolism and help you lose weight quicker.

We are all born with some parenting skill; qualities such as patience, ability to love, and humour, but other skills need to be learned. Parents do not know how to react to situations until they are faced with them and are on a constant learning curve.
The first thing to remember is to never be afraid to ask for advice. Whatever the situation you are trying to deal with, someone else has been through it before you. Your family and your friends are a great source of advice and information, as they may have developed a particular parenting skill that you haven’t needed to find yet.
Books and the internet are also a great source of information. A quick look at online booksellers or internet sites shows a massive amount of advice available. It is a good idea to double check parenting skill advice you find on the internet though as it obviously isn’t checked or regulated.
Thirdly, your doctor, health visitor, midwife and nurses are available to help you. If you are seriously worried about a health or behavioural problem with your child they are the best people to ask. There are lots of facilities available to help, such as child psychologists, educational psychologists, and in some cases of behavioural problems medications can even be prescribed to help control the symptoms. Do not be worried about wasting the health professionals’ time – you aren’t wasting their time at all, and they are happy to help. Parenting skill isn’t something you have to learn on your own.
Another way to get help with your parenting skill is to go to classes. Many classes and programs are available, either dealing with specific issues or general skills. Your local surgery or social services should be able to provide you with details of these. If you are having serious problems then social services will also be able to give you help. Asking social services doesn’t mean they are going to take your children from you so please don’t be afraid of asking them for help when you need it.
Whatever issues you have with parenting skill, whether you simply need reassurance, or whether you need serious help, you are not on your own. Millions have had similar problems before you and millions will have the same issues in the future. By using the resources you have available to you, you will give your children the benefit of the best information and parenting skill possible.
